Here are some helpful tips to help you prepare for your first wine tour or wine tasting with family and friends:
Dress in comfortable clothing - There is quite a bit of walking involved when you do a wine tour, so it’s important to wear clothing that is comfortable to move in. You will be walking around the vineyard and learning about the wine-making process.
Have a plan - Make sure you have a budget for how much money you want to spend on wine because it can add up fast. Planning will keep you from getting caught up in the moment and overspending.
Don't be afraid to ask questions - Don’t make the mistake of guessing about what wine you liked, just ask for clarification! It’s normal to forget about the wines that you tasted at the beginning of the tour, so it’s also a good idea to make a note on your phone about the wines you like.
Smell before tasting - Don’t be afraid to smell the wine before you taste it. You can get a good idea of whether you’d like the taste of the wine by smelling it.
Stay hydrated - Alcohol will dehydrate you, so make sure you are drinking a lot of water. This will prevent you from feeling sick the next day.
Make sure you eat - Keeping food in your system is always a good idea when you are doing a wine tasting. Some places will give you snacks that pair well with the wines they are serving, and others will have you buy food.
Have fun -
Wine tours and tastings are meant to be fun, so enjoy yourself! Make the most of the time you have there and taste all the wines!
